The U.S. offers 55,000 green cards each fiscal (government) year to natives of countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. For the FY-2025 allotment, the registration period opened on October 4, 2023 and will run through 12 p.m. EDT on November 7, 2023. Registration is done on-line at dvprogram.state.gov.
Natives of the following countries and areas are not eligible to apply because more than 50,000 natives of these countries have immigrated to the U.S. in the previous five years: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, P.R. China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela and Vietnam.
